Tuesday Afternoon December 29th Update

Good Tuesday afternoon, everyone. Nick here with a blog update at Doug’s request. We may be cloudy and cold today, but at least we’re quiet! That FINALLY gives us a chance to dry out and get the floodwaters out of here. Even with the clouds, we’re quiet on the radar below…

Our system that plagued us with the rain and snow is now in the northeastern United States. We’re now watching our next upper level wave sitting in the Desert Southwest that will be heading our way…

nextwave

Before it works in, we’ll just be cloudy and cold this afternoon with highs only making it into the lower 30s for most spots. The upper wave works in after midnight and sticks around through early Wednesday morning. There’ll be just enough moisture for this wave to work with that a chance for light snow/snow flurries will work through the area…

After 7 AM Wednesday, any snow chances are gone and we’ll go through another cold and mostly cloudy day for Wednesday. After we start in the lower to middle 20s Wednesday morning, highs will top out again in the lower 30s. If you’re curious about potential snow amounts with this wave, it’s not shaping up to be a big snowmaker…

snowamounts

Most spots will likely see just a dusting up to a half inch of snow. If you’re around Chanute, Independence and Iola westward, you’ll have a better shot for at least light snow. Even then, expected amounts shouldn’t be more than an inch. After this system, we’ll keep quiet as we go into the New Year!

Have a good day!

Nick

LONG RANGE FORECAST IS BELOW BASED OFF THE HEADY PATTERN:

Here is your 7-day forecast:

Remember that you can sign up for WeatherCall by clicking the WeatherCall link at the top of the page. WeatherCall, in our opinion, is the best tool on the market to keep you safe during severe weather.

Also we have our free WEATHER APP that lets you access our forecast, blog, radar and weather alerts. I think it’s a must if you own an Apple or Android phone.

LONG RANGE FORECAST: Based off of the HP(Heady Pattern)

SLIGHT CHANCES:  MEAN IT IS A WEAKER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US SCATTERED SHOWERS OR SNOW SHOWERS.

IF I DON’T SAY SLIGHT:  THAT MEANS THIS IS A STRONGER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US MUCH BETTER PRECIPITATION CHANCES

Jan 3rd-9th:

Cold start to the week.  Staying cool through most of the week again we will see another system working in with rain and snow chances on Wednesday and Thursday.

Jan 10th-16th:

Mild temperatures finally work in with some rain chances on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Cooling down for the weekend with rain or snow chances on Saturday.
