January 9th Update – Cold & Dry for the Rest of the Weekend

Good Saturday evening, everyone. It’s safe to say as I write this blog and check my Powerball ticket, I won’t be retiring early anytime soon. LOL. Hopefully, some of you out there had better luck with your tickets. I cannot recall a lottery jackpot getting that high before! If you were hoping for little accumulating snow with our system, lady luck was kinder to you in that department. Where snow fell across the area Saturday morning, any accumulation was only between a dusting and up to half an inch tops. We’ll keep things quiet on the radar below for a little while…

The system that gave us a some rain and a little snow has pushed off to the east. For tonight and Sunday, we’re dealing with plenty of northerly winds thanks to the flow around the backside of the system and high pressure working in from the north…

setup

That setup will definitely keep us cold for our Sunday. In fact, I think Sunday morning will be the coldest we will get so far this season. With clearing skies and that north & northwest breeze dragging colder air in here, we’ll start around 10° by sunrise Sunday morning. It’s very well possible that spots north of Joplin will start at 7, 8 or 9°…

sundayam

With the wind gusting near 25 mph at times, it’ll feel much colder than 10° to start Sunday morning. Feels like temperatures around the area Sunday morning will be anywhere between -10° and -5°…

feelslikeam

Even though we warm up Sunday afternoon, we’ll still be cold. Skies stay mostly sunny and the NW wind gusting near 20 mph will only allow us to warm into the middle 20s…

sundaypm

We do return into the middle to upper 30s for highs on Monday & Tuesday. The warm up will continue into the middle of the week with highs returning into the 40s Wednesday & Thursday. We keep things quiet until our next system brings rain and snow chances by Friday and Saturday.

LONG RANGE FORECAST IS BELOW BASED OFF THE HEADY PATTERN:

Here is your 7-day forecast:

Remember that you can sign up for WeatherCall by clicking the WeatherCall link at the top of the page. WeatherCall, in our opinion, is the best tool on the market to keep you safe during severe weather.

Also we have our free WEATHER APP that lets you access our forecast, blog, radar and weather alerts. I think it’s a must if you own an Apple or Android phone.

LONG RANGE FORECAST: Based off of the HP(Heady Pattern)

SLIGHT CHANCES:  MEAN IT IS A WEAKER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US SCATTERED SHOWERS OR SNOW SHOWERS.

IF I DON’T SAY SLIGHT:  THAT MEANS THIS IS A STRONGER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US MUCH BETTER PRECIPITATION CHANCES

Next Week:

Cold most of the week with slight chances for snow on Wednesday and then again on Friday and Saturday.

Jan. 17th-23rd:

Cold most of the week with slight chances for snow on Tuesday.  Another system with rain and snow chances on Friday and Saturday once again.
