Good Thursday morning, everyone! We had another chilly start this morning, but we didn’t have to start as cold as the teens like yesterday. After we started in the 20s and 30s, we’ve already warmed up nicely thanks to plenty of sunshine and a light northwest breeze. Since we have the sunny skies, the radar is going to stay quiet for today…
Before we hit 11 AM, Joplin was already reporting a temperature of 52° with still a light west breeze at 8 mph. Once we get a northwest wind for the afternoon, we shouldn’t go too crazy in terms of warming things up. With that said, since we’re already in the lower 50s across most of the area, I wouldn’t be surprised if we topped out in the middle to upper 50s. The HRRR certainly seems to back that idea up…
We keep skies quiet and the breeze on the light side tonight. That allows us to drop back into the lower to middle 30s. For Friday, quite a bit of mild air works in to start our final weekend of January! Mostly sunny skies for Friday with highs going into the lower to middle 60s…
Saturday will be another nice repeat of Friday before we see some slight rain chances for Sunday. Our next bigger system, though, is still set to work in on Monday and into Tuesday and Wednesday. The GFS still has this as an impressive wave in the mid-levels next Tuesday…
How does that translate down to the surface so far? Looks like rain Monday and for most of Tuesday. Then, there’s the backside of the system…
Depending on how the surface low tracks and how fast the colder air works in, we could see snow chances on the back side of the system. If that plays out, we’ll stick with some snow chances Tuesday evening into Wednesday. For more details on this plus Doug’s long range forecast, just head over to headypattern.com
Have a great Thursday!
