Early Thursday AM May 19th Update – Rain Trying to Sneak Back In

Good early Thursday morning, everyone. We enjoyed a dry Wednesday. It also helped that we saw some sun finally return to help us warm into the middle to upper 60s. We’ll continue the warming trend even though rain chances will try to sneak back in late Thursday. Nothing on the radar below for us tonight…

We look at our setup below and we see some changes taking shape. One low out in the Gulf of Alaska will work into the western United States as we go through Thursday. That will kick the low out of New Mexico and Arizona. That low will pass northwest of us, but it’ll eb close enough to bring some rain chances our way…

setup

We go through the rest of the overnight and into the morning dry and partly cloudy. Lows should drop back into the upper 40s to near 50°…

thursdayam

We gradually turn mostly cloudy as the afternoon gets underway and we’ll see a few showers try to pop up after 2 or 3 PM. I still expect a mild day with highs back near 69°…

thursdaypm

As that system passes by, that will give us a somewhat better rain chances going into tonight and early Friday morning. It should be scattered and it shouldn’t be a washout like what we had to start the week with…

Once we get past Friday morning, we’ll be dry for the rest of the day and turning partly sunny. Highs Friday should top out near 71°. Going into the rest of the weekend, it’s looking mostly good. With that said, there could be a few t-storm chances over the weekend…

tstormchances

It’s possible that we could see a few t-storms Saturday afternoon as we warm into the middle 70s. I don’t think the t-storm chances will affect the Joplin Marathon, so that should be in good shape. Sunday looks dry overall for most of the day with highs in the upper 70s. You could argue that a few t-storms could try to pop up Sunday evening, but we’ll be talking about after 6 or 7 PM by that time. We’ll hold off on any good chances for strong (possibly severe) t-storms until we get into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

LONG RANGE FORECAST: Based off of the HP(Heady Pattern)

SLIGHT CHANCES:  MEAN IT IS A WEAKER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US SCATTERED SHOWERS OR SNOW SHOWERS.

IF I DON’T SAY SLIGHT:  THAT MEANS THIS IS A STRONGER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US MUCH BETTER PRECIPITATION CHANCES

May 24rd-28th:  Warm with thunderstorms chances on Wednesday.  We could have a severe threat by Wednesday, so we’ll watch that setup.  Staying warm the second half of the week with slight chances for thunderstorms on Friday.

May 29th-June 4th:  Mild temperatures with very slight chances for storms to start the week.  Warm the rest of the week with better chances for storms on Thursday.
