Late Sunday PM November 20th Update – Rain Chances on the Horizon

Good Sunday evening, everyone. Sure enough, we had another cold start to the day. After starting at 27° this morning, we warmed up nicely thanks to mostly sunny skies and a light south breeze. Our average high for this part of November is 57° and that’s exactly what the Joplin Regional Airport recorded as the high for this Sunday. We go into the night quiet once again on the radar below…

While we stay quiet for tonight and Monday, I’m watching two systems off to our west. Below on the surface map, you can see the developing low in southeastern Colorado and our next cold front stretching from Idaho to California…

setup

Those two systems will come together out west and head our way soon to bring some rain and t-storm chances back into our area. For Monday, we keep the south wind in place ahead of that system. Even though we see some cloud cover work in during the day, it’ll be a nice Monday around here. After we start in the middle to upper 30s, expect partly sunny skies for Monday afternoon with highs around 60°…

Going into Monday night, skies will turn mostly cloudy as the system out west draws nearer. With mostly cloudy skies and the wind picking up to 10-15 mph out of the south, we won’t see temperatures drop a whole lot going into Tuesday morning. Even with a few showers possible by the Tuesday morning drive, lows should only drop to about 49°…

As long as we’re ahead of the cold front on Tuesday, that will keep scattered rain and t-storms in the forecast. I don’t expect anything severe here, but don’t be surprised if you hear some rumbles of thunder with the rain chances during the day. With the clouds and the rain chances around, highs will only top out near 60° Tuesday afternoon…

For Wednesday, that system is out of here and we’ll see skies gradually turn partly sunny behind it. It’ll be chilly with afternoon highs back into the middle 50s. Heading into the holiday weekend, Thanksgiving is looking pretty good! We’ll start cold near 37° but we’ll top out near 61° under partly sunny skies…

Black Friday, Saturday and Sunday look dry as we keep afternoon highs in the middle 50s and lows in the middle 30s. While I don’t see any big systems sneaking in for the holiday weekend, we’ll watch for another system by early next week. If we stick with Doug’s pattern, that’s a system that could start as rain on Monday but maybe switch to a wintry mix next Tuesday. Doug has you covered with his latest thoughts on the pattern and his long-range forecast over on headypattern.com

Have a good night and a great Monday!

LONG RANGE FORECAST: Based off of the HP(Heady Pattern)

SLIGHT CHANCES:  MEAN IT IS A WEAKER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US SCATTERED SHOWERS OR SNOW SHOWERS.

IF I DON’T SAY SLIGHT:  THAT MEANS THIS IS A STRONGER SYSTEM

November 27th-December 3rd:  A mild start to the week, but quickly cooling down with rain chances on Sunday and Monday.  With colder air working in, we could have a wintry mix by Tuesday.  The cold air sticks around through the middle of the week.  Mild temperatures return late in the week with rain chances by the weekend.
