Wednesday Evening January 18th Update – We’ll Keep Warming Up

Good Wednesday evening, everyone. We had to start with plenty of cloud cover and some thick fog in spots, but we kept things pretty quiet today. Highs today topped out in the middle 50s today and we’ll do it all over again for Thursday. With that said, there may not be anything on the radar below early this evening…

Even though we started the evening cloudy and quiet, we do have a quick wave passing nearby. You can see it out in Kansas below…

With this wave and cloud cover hanging on through the night, don’t be surprised to see a few showers (even a few t-storms) popping up overnight. The NAM below certainly wants to back that idea up…

After we get past the Thursday AM drive, we’ll be done with the rain chances as we stay mostly cloudy for the rest of the day. With morning lows expected to drop into the middle 40s, we’ll see afternoon highs rebound back into the middle 50s across the area…

To start the upcoming weekend, Friday looks quiet and mild with highs back into the lower 60s. Going into Saturday and Sunday, that’s when our next bigger system works in. Have a look at the upper level setup for Sunday 6 AM below…

The way that upper level low wants to track south of us, that would be an ideal setup for snow. The problem is we’re not going to have enough cold air at both the surface and the lower levels of the atmosphere. So, when we see that wave of moisture work in, we’ll have rain chances Saturday (late afternoon into the evening) and for Sunday…

We’ll keep things quiet for Monday before another system will work in by next Tuesday and Wednesday. That system looks to be mainly rain, but we’ll keep an eye on the temperatures as well. If enough cold air works in with that, we could mix some snow in with that.

Remember, Doug also has you covered over on headypattern.com if you want the long range forecast through the end of February and his latest thoughts on the pattern.

Have a great night and a great Thursday!

Nick

LONG RANGE FORECAST: Based off of the HP(Heady Pattern)

SLIGHT CHANCES:  MEAN IT IS A WEAKER SYSTEM THAT WILL GIVE US SCATTERED SHOWERS OR SNOW SHOWERS.

IF I DON’T SAY SLIGHT:  THAT MEANS THIS IS A STRONGER SYSTEM

Next Week:  Rain chances with a storm system working through on Sunday and Monday.  Turning colder the rest of the week with rain or snow chances on Wednesday and Thursday.  Staying cold into the weekend.

January 29th-February 4th:  Temperatures stay mainly on the cold side through the week with rain and snow chances on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
