Monday Evening November 27th – Still Watching Rain Chances on the Way

Good Monday evening, everyone. Today was certainly a mild and windy way to start a new work/school week out. With the good south wind we had today, temperatures wasted no time getting to 70 degrees this afternoon. That wind and the dry air in place, though, led to Red Flag Warnings for parts of the area today. It was not ideal weather for any outdoor burning. We’ll try to ease back on wildfire concerns and finally bring back some rain chances into the area as we go through the middle of the week. We’ll keep the radar below quiet for the rest of the night…

With quiet skies tonight and a south breeze that will keep at it as we go into Tuesday morning, temperatures won’t get very cool. Expect lower to middle 50s as you head back to work/school in the morning…

For most of the day, we’ll still have a good south breeze ahead of our next approaching cold front…

That south breeze will be quick to warm us up again for your Tuesday. By lunchtime below, temperatures will easily be in the middle 60s with afternoon highs planning on topping out in the upper 60s…

As the front continues to work in through the day, we’ll see the cloud cover eventually build in from the northwest. By the time we hit late afternoon and head into the evening, that’s when we’ll finally have a chance to see some showers work in…

With this front planning on hanging out for a little while as we go into Wednesday morning, that will keep the clouds and rain chances around…

As we work through Wednesday and head into Thursday, we’ll have another quick system from the northwest work in. That will, sadly, encourage rain chances to scoot on out of here by Wednesday afternoon…

We have certainly been dry for the month with just 0.26″ of rain at Joplin Regional so far. On top of that, there is a bit of a drought in parts of southwest MO and it really picks up as you go through the Ozarks and into eastern MO. The incoming rain won’t put a big dent in our unusually dry month, but we’ll take whatever we can get. You can see how the GFS below wants us at least to have some measurable rainfall before the rain chances exit late Wednesday…

These few cold fronts will also cool us down into the 50s for afternoon highs as we go through Wednesday and into the upcoming weekend. The weekend is looking dry as we eventually head back into 60 degree territory. By early next week, we’ll keep an eye on another system that will bring rain chances back into the area. Have a good night and a great Tuesday!
