Monday Evening April 9th – Another Hard Freeze Before A Warmer Tuesday

Good Monday evening, everyone. We had another cold start for us today, but we were able to warm up throughout the day. Even with passing cloud cover and some scattered showers, we saw highs rebound into the middle 50s (a few spots in the upper 50s). Once we get any scattered showers out of here during the evening, the radar below will stay quiet for the night ahead of us…

Even though we’ll have quiet skies tonight, we’ll have a pretty light breeze (if not a calm breeze) in place. That will set us up for another hard freeze (I’m tired of them just like you all are) with lows dropping back into the upper 20s…

Even though Tuesday starts off cold, it will not stay cold all day. Even with a light south breeze kicking in by lunchtime, we’ll have warmer air working back in. With mostly sunny skies to go along with it, we’ll easily be in the lower to middle 50s by lunch time and pushing into the lower 60s by the afternoon…

We won’t be finished with warming things up after Tuesday, though. Look at the upper levels of the atmosphere by Thursday afternoon below. We’ll have a good upper level ridge work over the area by then. That means we’ll go into the middle 70s Wednesday afternoon and push 80° on Thursday…

If you couldn’t help but notice the upper low out over Utah in the map above, that is our next system we’ll be watching. It’ll bring in a cold front from the west when we roll into Friday morning…

With the way things are looking so far, we should stay quiet for most of Friday morning. Going into the afternoon, that’s when we’ll have to keep an eye on this system as it will trigger showers and t-storms across the area. There is a chance some of the storms could be strong to severe when they get going during the afternoon…

It’s still too early to set that forecast in stone. As we get closer to Friday, we’ll have a better idea of who’ll see t-storm chances and a possible severe threat. Behind that, winter wants to make another appearance with cooler temperatures over the weekend. That shouldn’t last long as we rebound into the 60s next Monday. Don’t forget that Doug has your long range forecast and latest thoughts on the pattern over at headypattern.com

Have a good night and a great Tuesday!

Nick
